Before assigning a shipping service to your order there are many variables to check. The variables can range from highly complex to very simplistic.

Here are the five most popular variables you need to know for the automation of shipping using a multichannel order management system:
  1. The country that the order is to be delivered to.

  2. The shipping service that the buyer has selected on a selling channel.

  3. The total weight of the order.

  4. The total charge for the order.

  5. The type of packaging need for the order (I.E, letter, large letter, parcel…

Now, below is an explanation of how the system will assign the accurate shipping information to the orders placed:
  1. In the first condition the system will identify if an order is in one of the stated European countries. If so, it will then assign the Royal Mail international service (PS7 in the above example.)

  2. Next, the system will check the order for countries situated within the Rest of the World and will assign the Royal Mail MP1 service.

  3. It will then identify orders within the United Kingdom.

  4. If any orders purchased though a selling channel are expedited – this could be Amazon expedited or eBay next day delivery – the system will assign a DPD next day delivery.

  5. The next stage of the UK delivery is concerned with the weight. If the system deems that the order is less than 2000 grams with a total cost which falls under £25, the correct courier service will be chosen based on the packaging size of the consignment(Letter STL, RM 48 (LL) or RM 48).

  6. If the weight of the order is under 2000 grams but equals £25 or more, then a RM 24 Tracked will be assigned. Finally, any orders which weigh 2000 grams or above will have DPD Next Day allocated.
